As events unfolded last weekend at the fifth annual Relay for Life fundraiser in Agoura Hills, it seems everybody had a story to tell about how cancer has touched their lives. Since "cancer never sleeps," neither did the participants.

Axed walnut tree cultivates controversy

The Hillels have been wrangling with officials about their right to develop their land in the equestrian area for more than four years.

Acosta resigns from Triunfo board

The men spoke about hate, healing, forgive ness and hope. Tim Zaal, a former white supremacist from the San Gabriel Valley, served time in jail after assaulting an Iranian couple he thought were Jewish.

Building safety stressed this week

The International Code Council has nationally recognized May 5 through 12 as "Building Safety Week." The city of Agoura Hills presented a proclamation for Building Safety Week at its April 23 City Council meeting. The building and safety staff of Agoura Hills will host an outreach program once a month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Symphony looks to raise $600,000

Redbone entertains at The Canyon

For more than three decades, Leon Redbone has been one of the concert scene's most unlikely successes. Redbone has made a career out of reviving songs from jazz, blues and pop history. At his recent appearance at The Canyon in Agoura Hills, Redbone played a dozen tunes for a few hundred reverential fans, accompanied only by talented stride pianist Paul Asaro.

Language barrier

This is because of Bill Clinton's Executive Order 13166 requiring government agencies to do the above or lose federal funding. That money should be used for our children's schooling. Book collection was a success

A huge thank you to all of those who participated in the Big Sunday Book Drive on Sat., May 4. With the committed support of the Oak Park Unified School District, the community was able to collect more than 3,000 books for all ages from preschool to 12th grade, which were donated to Oxnard schools in need.

Chopped walnut tree leaves bad taste

Sometimes a tree falls and nobody hears it. This one fell and woke up the whole neighborhood. Pasadena developers Aitan and Schlomy Hillel admitted to taking the ax to a 50-year-old black walnut tree at the corner of Chesebro Road and Palo Comado Canyon Drive in Old Agoura after city officials denied their application to build a carwash at the site.
