Acorn will ask for
voluntary subscriptions

The Acorn will ask you next week for a voluntary subscription. The annual rate will be only $15 (less than 30 cents per issue for home delivery).

Voluntary subscriptions will help defray the escalating costs of printing and delivery. They’ll help us maintain the quality of our publication.

We think we’re worth it.

Also "worth it" is the annual Agoura/Las Virgenes Optimist Club’s "Santa Comes to Agoura and Beyond" food drive. Forty percent of the money received by The Acorn’s voluntary subscriptions will go to the nondenominational food drive.

As most of you know, "Santa Comes to Agoura and Beyond" makes local families and individuals its No. 1 priority. There’s no overhead with the drive––nobody is paid––so all of the money goes directly to helping the needy. It’s 100 percent volunteers.

Affluent areas like Conejo Valley/Las Virgenes aren’t immune to hardship. Troubled families exist here, just like everywhere else.

Setbacks happen from job losses, corporate downsizing, accidents, illnesses or death. Volunteers at "Santa Comes to Agoura and Beyond" have delivered food, personal care items and more to prestigious neighborhoods where you wouldn’t expect to see families in need. The drive relies on tips from relatives, friends, acquaintances, schools, churches and temples about the needy. Both sources and recipients remain anonymous.

After local needs are met, other worthy causes also benefit from "Santa Comes to Agoura and Beyond." The drive also accepts new unwrapped toys and it culminates on the first Saturday in December, so children can be helped during Hanukkah and Christmas.

Your $15 voluntary subscription will also help needy people this holiday season.

Watch for the voluntary subscription form on this page in next week’s paper. A story will also explain the annual food drive. The special subscription rate will apply only to existing delivery areas.

We appreciate your support.
