Science camps available this month in Calabasas

The city of Calabasas Community Services Department is offering a variety of one-week science camps this month open to youth in grades kindergarten through 6th grade at Grape Arbor Park, Calabasas. Participants may register for the 9 a.m. to noon session ($145) or 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. full day program ($219).

Pre-registration is required.

"X-Treme Science Camp" runs Monday through Friday, Aug. 5 to 9 and affords participants the opportunity to construct their own K’Nex Robot, build a microscope and mix a batch of "glowing slime."

"Space and Rocketry Camp" runs Monday through Friday, Aug. 12 to 16. Kids will design a Mars Rover and make a working telescope plus build the all new solid fuel Sierra Rocket and participate in Launch Day.

"Far Out Physics Camp" runs Monday through Friday, Aug. 19 to 23. Kids will learn about electricity, light, motion and more.

Los Angeles Pierce College is offering "Techno Fun Science Camp—Extreme Inventionology" for young adults from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, Aug. 12 to 16 on the college campus, 6201 Winnetka Ave., Woodland Hills. Participants will have an opportunity to explore science, featuring hands-on investigations in small groups led by professional science instructors.

Science Camp "emphasizes the development and use of critical thinking skills, science process skills and interactive, dynamic learning situations," according to college spokeswoman Marian Suckut.
