Cub Scouts have a field day at Red Oak Elementary

ACTIVITIES GALORE-Above, the fourth- and fifth-grade Webelos, who are the highest ranking Cub Scouts, show off their forestry project. Below, one scout learns about the forces of gravity as he tackles a climbing wall. The Cub Scout day camp took place in Oak Park on the campus of Red Oak Elementary School.

More than 400 Cub Scouts from Oak Park, Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley and Moorpark recently participated in a "Forces of Nature" themed Cub Scout Day Camp at Red Oak Elementary School in Oak Park, sponsored by the Ventura County Scout Council. The program offered Scouts from first through fifth grades a wide range of interactive programs involving science, outdoor adventure, crafts and sports.

The program focused on a different theme daily including earth, gravity, wind, temperature and water. Scouts practiced on a climbing wall and participated in archery and hiking. The objective of the program was to teach the boys how to safely enjoy outdoor activities and learn respect for the environment.

Cub Scout Day Camp is an annual program staffed primarily by parents and volunteers who have received training on camp programs and child safety.

For information on joining Scouts, please call the Ventura County Scout Council at (805) 482-8938.
