Names were
fraudulently used

I’m a junior at Agoura High School and studying U.S. history. Last month I received a brochure with a list of people who supported a no vote on Measure H. This list was headed with names of all councilmembers, mayor and developer.

I got to looking at it and realized that it was filled with duplicate names, slightly altered names from other listings and even people from out of state. I went to the city council meeting and addressed the council about this bogus list.

That list disappeared but a far larger and fraudulent list came next. It contained the names of people who I personally knew were staunch supporters of yes on H. It turned out that the names were added to the no list of supporters by anyone who sent in a postcard requesting an absentee ballot sent out by the no folks.

Yet they had not checked off on the card that they were supporters. Since then, I’ve been contacted by many others who said they never sent in any postcard and had no idea of how they got their name.

Formal complaints have been lodged.

I contacted the group that made the brochures with this information. This same list of names came out multiple times even with protest from the people whose names had been hijacked, but they just kept printing it up.

There’s nothing more precious than a man or a woman’s name and no one has the right to steal it. The news of this atrocious tactic got out to many, including the press. I’m amazed that our councilmembers and mayor continued to allow their names to be on this list.
