Construction set to start

Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area acting superintendent Woody Smeck has announced that work will begin on construction projects in Solstice Canyon, Malibu.

Following an Environmental Assessment public meeting held in Malibu and the Finding of No Significant Impact on the preferred plans, the National Park Service (NPS) finalized construction contracts. The work will begin March 31 and continue until the end of the year.

Several hiking trails in Solstice Canyon will continue to be available to visitors throughout the construction project. However, there will be no vehicle access and no restroom facilities.

NPS recommends that all organizations that bring groups into Solstice Canyon suspend scheduled activities there by March 31. Group leaders as well as the general public may call the National Park Service hotline for a recorded message at (805) 370-2331.
