Starting gun goes off Monday in council races Three of five seats are up for grabs in two local city councils in the Tues., Nov. 6 election this fall. Candidates can start the process next Mon., July 16, when paperwork to seek office can be withdrawn from city halls in Agoura Hills and Westlake Village. Facing reelection in Agoura Hills are city councilmen Ed Corridori, Jeff Reinhardt and Denis Weber. Corridori is the incumbent mayor. Reinhardt has already announced that he will run. In Westlake Village, city councilmembers Kris Carraway-Bowman, Iraj Broomand and Mark Rutherford, who’s serving as mayor, are up for reelection. In both cities, the three positions represent majorities on five-seat city councils. Incumbents and challengers have until Fri., Aug. 10 to file their papers. If an incumbent chooses not to seek reelection, the filing deadline is extended five days until Mon., Aug. 15 in that respective city. All candidates must be registered voters and live in the city for which they’re seeking office. Among the paperwork is a document that requires the signatures of not less than 20 or more than 30 registered voters who also must be residents of that city. Two challengers in Agoura Hills were disqualified from an election several years ago when they discovered after filing their papers that nonresidents or citizens unregistered to vote had signed their forms. Agoura Hills City Hall is at 30101 Agoura Court, Ste. 102. City hall in Westlake Village is at 4373 Park Terrace Drive. For an election packet in Agoura Hills, please call the city clerk’s office at (818) 597-7303 to schedule an appointment. In Westlake Village, please call the city clerk’s office at (818) 706-1613. ––Steve Holt |
