Sporting the signs of spring

ONLY 13 DAYS UNTIL THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING––The Oak Park girls’ basketball team, above right, celebrates their first ever California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section basketball championship. They won it on Saturday in Long Beach and they won their first-round game in the regional tourney. See stories, page 28. Jordan Erickson, a 6-year-old White Oak Elementary student and shortstop for the Cardinals, above left, is primed and set to play in a 12:30 p.m. season opener that followed Saturday’s opening day ceremonies that celebrate Westlake Baseball Association’s 25th anniversary. Fifty-two teams and about 625 players will compete this season. Despite persistent clouds and rain, spring is just around the corner. And it will be green.
