City of Agoura Hills prepares for SpringFest The city of Agoura Hills threw a party last year called SpringFest, not only to celebrate the new millennium, but also to highlight the city’s people, its businesses and organizations. Officials have announced plans are in full swing for SpringFest 2001, scheduled for April 29 at Chumash Park in Agoura Hills, the site of last year’s inaugural event. "Celebrate the Good Life" is this year’s theme. "The purpose of the event is to give residents of the community an opportunity to explore the many treasures we have in Agoura Hills," said Dan Kuperberg, city councilman and SpringFest organizer. More than 4,000 people attended SpringFest 2000 and enjoyed the more than 75 booths and activities set up by local businesses, clubs, churches, temples and schools. "It shows what Agoura Hills is all about," Kuperberg said. "We think it’s going to be a great event." In addition to food booths, live entertainment and demonstrations will be a car show this year. Activities for kids will include a skateboard and in-line skating area, a rock climbing wall, miniature golf and a Jolly Jump. Kicking off the event will be a "Push-N-Pull" parade in which kids, parents and pets arrive at the park, transported by a variety of wagons, strollers and other family-friendly vehicles that embark from a parking lot at nearby Agoura High School. Last week a SpringFest citizens’ committee announced the winner of this year’s logo contest. Megan Murphy, a fourth grader at St. Jude the Apostle School, submitted a color drawing showing kids holding hands by a pond (with a tree and flowers) that will serve as the official SpringFest logo. Agoura High 11th grader Brian Meskill received second place and St. Jude fifth grader Geena Haney got third. Fifty entries were submitted from seven local schools. The committee has been meeting regularly since last August to organize SpringFest. The SpringFest sub-committee members and their responsibilities are: Business Fair: Randy Paller and Jeff Berman; Restaurant Row: Tom Jacobellis; Environment: Nancee Baldino and Sandy Thomas; Non-Profit: Deborah Peters; Churches and Temples: Dave Gudgel; Teen Area: Corey Wish, Julie Anderson and Rob Jones; Logo Contest: Marilyn Lippiatt; Entertainment: Tyler Wright; Emergency Services: Sgt. Kevin Mauch; Schools: Larry Misel; Parade: Donna Conlin; Car Show: Dan Kuperberg. The Sun., April 29 event runs from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. A rain date is scheduled for May 20.
