Classes offered at Pierce Extention

For those with an artistic bent, indulge your creativity through some of these upcoming classes at Los Angeles Pierce College Extension.

They’re offering a class to teach students how to turn beautiful French wired ribbons into Victorian style flowers, as taught to dressmakers and hatmakers in the 1920s.

These sunflowers, fuchsias and circle flowers can be used to adorn home accessories, wearables and gifts.

Students should bring scissors, straight pins and a glue gun to class.

Instructor Terri Holtzman has designed various crafts and wearable art for boutiques and art galleries since 1981.

"French Ribbon Flower Art" is offered from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on Thurs., Feb. 22. Registration fee is $26 plus a $10 material fee.

Another class, "Floral Design," will teach participants how to create dazzling displays of floral art, providing opportunity to experiment with long and low centerpieces, cheerful bouquets and dramatic arrangements.

Instructor Stephanie Barton has experience as a floral designer for weddings, receptions and parties.

"Floral Design" is offered from 1:30-3 p.m. Saturdays, Feb. 24-March 24. Registration fee is $52 plus a $60 material fee.

Interested in learning "Ikebana," the art of Japanese flower arranging? Pierce offers a class to teach Ikebana, the beauty and simplicity of floral arrangements to complement a home. Participants will use fresh or dried branches, leaves and/or flowers to create a new and different arrangement each week.

Instructor Kyoko Kassarjian has taught Ikebana for more than 10 years.

"Ikebana" is offered from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Saturdays, Feb. 24-March 31. Registration fee is $58 plus a $10 textbook fee.

The college is at 6201 Winnetka Ave. in Woodland Hills. For additional information or to register for classes, please call (818) 719-6425.
