Be a valentine to a feline Pet Orphans Fund, a nonprofit animal rescue organization in Van Nuys, is hosting its first "Be a Valentine to a Feline" Clean Used Towel Drive, running from Feb. 14 through March 31. "Used towels may not be everyone’s idea of a great Valentine’s present," said Diane Scripps, founder of Pet Orphans, "but they provide a comfortable source of bedding for younger kittens and older cats; cushioning for resting and climbing areas; and a strong, reusable product to clean our cat house." Pet Orphans also needs towels for their canine residents. The organization currently houses an average of 50 dogs and 80 cats. There’s no maximum stay for pets that reside in the facility, many of whom have been obtained from animal shelters in Los Angeles and Eastern Ventura County. Founded in 1973, the organization has facilitated more than 20,000 dog and cat adoptions, and provided critical medical care for several thousand more pets and strays through its volunteer-driven Good Samaritan Program. They’re at 7720 Gloria Ave., Van Nuys. For more information on the used towel drive, please call (818) 901-0190, ext. 105. |
