Broomand recovers from bypass After a triple bypass surgery and six days of recovery at Los Robles Regional Medical Center, Westlake City Councilman and former mayor Iraj Broomand was released to go home Monday morning. He’s doing fine, according to sources. Broomand, 68, checked into Los Robles last week on Tuesday after receiving a routine angiogram that showed an artery blockage. During a test in which dye was pumped into the arteries, the blue liquid narrowed in areas where the blockage had formed. The walls of Broomand’s arteries had weakened with damage, so a bypass operation was the only solution. In the councilman’s case, a triple bypass was required. Another artery from a leg or arm surgically replaced the weak or damaged portion. Kris Carraway-Bowman, director of marketing and public relations at Los Robles Regional Medical Center said that some people have as many as eight or nine bypasses. Triple bypasses are fairly common. Broomand is fortunate because his heart muscle is very strong. According to Carraway-Bowman, a strong heart muscle is an important sign of good health. Carraway-Bowman also serves as a councilmember in Westlake Village. ––Michael Picarella |
