Two local golfers fare well in San Diego Oak Park High School sophomore Brandon Beck took second-place honors in the 13 to 15-year-old division of the Junior Tour golf tournament at Singing Hills Resort in San Diego, carding a five-over-par 149 for the two-day national event. Beck’s score was the second best score in all age divisions. Beck started the day in a tie for fifth after shooting a five-over-par 77 on the Willow Glen course, but followed with an even par 72 on the second day – the lowest round of the tournament – on the resort’s difficult Oak Glen course. First-round leader and tournament champion Ryoong Lim of Pleasanton, Calif. came in two shots ahead of Beck at 147. Westlake High School sophomore Jason Wilk finished in a six-way tie for third with a 155, but took home the third-place trophy by virtue of a card-off. Endorsed by the United States High School Golf Association, the Junior Tour is a national golf tour for competitive junior players. Singing Hills is the fifth of 16 stops across the country and the first of three events in California. Now in its 15th year, the Junior Tour is largely recognized as one of the nation’s premier winter golf series for junior golfers. |
