You can make life more satisfying

Each year we all get a bit older and our lives get busier; sometimes we forget to slow down and smell the roses. Work, our families, and our own personal issues consume our lives.

Have we forgotten how to truly enjoy life?

Jean-Paul Sartre is quoted as saying, "Everything has been figured out, except how to live."

Each of us has our own idea of what makes life enjoyable, but here are a few general tips that will help you make life more satisfying:

Rediscover your childhood pleasures and let them complement your adult life.

If you enjoyed playing in the dirt as a child, plant a garden or do some yard work.

If you enjoyed painting as a child, take this time to "brush up" on an old hobby.

If you have young kids, they can help you with these activities.

Turn off the TV. You’ll have more leisure time to do the things that can help put your mind elsewhere. Re-read your favorite book, take a relaxing bubble bath, or take a long scenic walk or drive.

Keep a journal. Take a few moments each day to write down your thoughts or to just describe something that happened in your day. You’ll develop a better understanding of yourself. You’ll also have an account of your own personal growth.

Take care of your mind and body. An unhealthy body will slow you down mentally, so take the time to take care of yourself.

Make sure you eat proper, well-balanced meals.

Use the meal as a welcomed break from your work. It will make the rest of your day more effective. You may want to also get out of your chair and stretch your legs a few times daily. It will help to clear your mind and sharpen your focus.

Call an old friend and rekindle the relationship. Sometimes years go by before we realize we haven’t spoken to those who have touched our lives in some aspect.

Talking and laughing with old friends always makes life seem more complete.

All of these suggestions are simple things that can help you begin to make the most of everyday therefore making the best out of life.

With all of our daily hustle and bustle, we sometimes forget that some of the small things impact our lives significantly.

Take a step back, sit down, and rediscover your happiness through the little things.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "It’s not the length of life, but the depth of life."
