Flu vaccine shortage halts free inoculation programs

CHUCK ROGERS/The Acorn

FORCED TO TURN PEOPLE AWAY--Los Robles Regional Medical Center spokeswoman Kris Carraway-Bowman stands outside the First Neighborhood Community Center with a sign informing residents that there's no more serum for flu shots during a vaccination day for senior citizens on Monday. Another flu shot clinic previously scheduled for this Sat., Nov. 18 had to be cancelled.

Los Robles Regional Medical Center was forced to cancel a third day of free flu shots on this Sat., Nov. 18 because the hospital ran out of vaccine during a similar event on Monday.

The flu shot clinics were scheduled to help seniors and high risk people, but demand exceeded supply. The flu clinic will be rescheduled when serum becomes available.

There’s a nationwide shortage of flu vaccine this year.
