Homeowners rally in opposition to Westlake park plans

      Residents in First Neighborhood of Westlake Village were to attend the monthly homeowners association (HOA) meeting last night at the First Neighborhood Community Center to discuss plans by a city of Westlake Village consultant to build a soccer field at White Oak Elementary School and other amenities at Bennett Park, adjacent the school.

Environmentalists unhappy with Calabasas creek water

Oak Park will reconsider its policy on alcohol use

      The recent suspension of 18 high school football players and their coach due to team alcohol use has led to a major review of the zero tolerance policy at Oak Park Unified School District. With students drinking and the policy teetering, news from a recently released survey showed more than half of the junior class at Oak Park High School have gotten drunk at least once in their lives. That information couldn’t have come at a worse time. The state’s Healthy Kids Survey, given to fifth, seventh, ninth and 11th graders last January, showed 51 percent of the high school juniors have been drunk or ill from alcohol and 49 percent still drink frequently.
